Can anybody ID this amp? I just got this note from an e-buddy on a non-technical forum for musicians: On another topic, I've got an older amp that I picked up from a buddy of mine. It's got a couple of 6V6's in it. It has a single volume control and one old Jensen 8" or 10" speaker. The output transformer is connected to the speaker frame. The name of the company is Tower Corp. The address is 400 S. Peoria Street, Chicago. I've been trying to date this thing for a number of years. I suspect it might be a Valco amp, but I can't find anything about it online and 400 S. Peoria Street was converted to loft condo's in the 1970s. Any ideas? Any information will be appreciated. Thanks! Steve Ahola |

A picture or at least tube layout order might help. Sure it was probably a contract manufacture item. Find some photos of old Valcos and such and show him the mug shots. For dating, tell him to look on the parts for date codes. I usually start with the pots, they are most reliably labelled. But transformers adn speakers often have date codes. Even caps many times have date codes. At least you could ge it down to about a year either way. |
