Re: Diode clipping // Marshall Amps... David; That's great!! At least you are getting closer to what you want to hear. That's what counts. The caps will help when you pop them in there. Trace |

I've finally gotten hold of some caps... dont know the exact brand,, little yellow paper tubes... anyways.. I decided that the first caps in the amp would make the most difference so I tried switching them ,, the change was very small.. it did cut the bass a little.. i switched a .68uf for a .003uf.. what i really need is some sockets so i can solder them together and interchange things fairly quickly.. I think the next place i'll try is the caps by the cathode resistors,, or i'll go back to the diode section,, that seemed to make the most difference in the sound,, I also got some audio taper pots.. 500k's.. plan out putting them in place of the tone section pots i have already.. i think the mid pot is 220k and the treble is 100k... anyone switched the pots before?? STEVE A.... DIODES ON PLATES Steve; I'm sorry!!!! I was falling asleep when I last replied. You were correct, the stripe goes on the tube's pin. It goes to ground when using it on a cathode resistor. Sorry again!!! Trace |
