Assuming it's a passive system of course. I would think a buffer amp would present the pickup minimal impedance loading, which is why buffered pickups have much more highs and lows, and a noticeably higher resonant frequency (which of course goes with the extended highs, since the resonant peak is right before the highend roll off begins).

But I'm agreeing with you.
