Wow, eddy current loading! Would these differences show up on your Extech meter? It would be great if the sonic differenes between magnet types could be explained by their effects on the AC impedance of the pickup.  
By the way, eddy currents are very important to designers of PM electric machines like motors and generators. If eddy currents can be induced in the magents, there will be additional power losses in the machine and it will be less efficient. For high-power machines, the eddy currents can be high enough to cause the magnet to overheat and lose its magnetic strength.
