I chose mine (the CL30) by the worst-case current I needed it to handle, and the highest initial ohmage I thought I could get away with for maximum current-limiting. This is for a 720VA three-toroid stack; a lower-current, higher-resistance unit would be more suitable for the majority of guitar amps. I'm actually hoping I won't need it at all - it's mainly so I won't have to over-fuse for turn-on surges - but a reliable AC-line current limiter certainly won't reduce the life of an amp.
