No problem. People who only have initials answer to any two letters. 8-)

"Do the Super Beatles sound the same as the English Conqueror/Defiant/Supreme as far as the fuzz tones are concerned? Because my Defiant has gotten really close to the tone Pagey's talking about."

I remember the CDS being really close if not identical. I'm not as familiar with the CDS. Only worked on two Supremes a long time ago.

"I need to find a schem of the Vox distortion booster. Is this pedal fixed, or are there controls? I'm assuming the distortion in the amp has it set to a certain fixed point."

It's on the web somewhere. It's fixed in the amp. The plug-in module only has a distortion amount control.

"Should the filter caps in these old amps be changed if the amp works fine,"

Yes, if you want them to be reliable.

quote:
"Should the filter caps in these old amps be changed if the amp works fine, isn't noisey, but IMO the distortion doesn't sound as hairy, aggressive and crisp as the tones on the old Beatles records "

Filter caps will have little to do with the subtlties of distortion. The Beatles massaged their tone in the mix. A lot. Some of their distortions are just the guitar into the board, and the board set up to overdrive, I've heard.

Distortion sounds are funny. The EQ *before* and after the clipping can make more difference than the actual clipping. You might be better served using the Vox distortion booster circuit but with some EQ ahead and behind it. I like the seven band graphic EQs as a before and after. These are usually a dime a dozen in pawn shops, and you get two channels, one for before, one for after.

The books still in process. Soon... I hope.
