Using higher current rectifiers will also usually boost the voltage by a fraction of a volt which will really help in a low voltage circuit. Dynaco used a voltage doubler with 1N400?'s and two 1000uF caps to run two 12AX7's. It gives pretty close to 12 volts. Just connect it to pins 4 and 5 and leave pin 9 open.
