Bummer but this does happen to about all of us.  
Do you have "the normal sound" after reconnecting the speaker?  
If not try some new 6V6s, if you don't get any or a good sound after that chances are big you did blow the OT.  
The stock Fender speaker wiring/jack(s) does short the output when no speaker is connected. A "better/safer" way is to install a 5 Watt/270 ohms resistor across the output which does give a little protection when no speaker is connected.
