I saw U2 on Saturday Night Live a few months ago. On one tune they played, "Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own", the Edge played a Rickenbacker through an AC30 and he had such a heavy tone, especially with a slide.
He also used a Tele through a couple of 5E3s for Vertigo.
Like him or not, IMO he's a tone god. That's what got me thinking of the AC30 circuit.
I love the old AC/DC tone. Like the rhythm guitars on "Dirty Deeds". Isn't that a JTM-45 with KT-66s? I wonder what kind of guitar and pickups Malcom used on that tune.
