I just bit the bullet and purchased a hand-built stand-alone reverb unit from "Uncle Spot". It was a bit pricey, but as Bill says, there is NO comparison with onboard reverb (UNLESS the onboard is a three-knob version).  
 
It really enhances the Tweedy as well as an old tweed {reverb-less) Gibson Explorer amp I have.
