9.6 volts will be fine. The miliamp rating is for available current, not really an output rating, but more like an available output rating. If you have several pedals on a pedal board drawing current from this battery, it's probably not the most economical way to power a board as the load draw on the battery may drain it quicker than you may like. But as far as frying anything, each pedal is only going to draw the amount of current that it needs to run properly. Experimentation won't be a problem if you should choose to try it.
