Re: War Death Count Reaches Major Milestone
What do you think of the view that it's better for Saddam to be killed because he could reveal compromising info about U.S. involvement/support of his ascendancy/regime? He is known to have made a visit to the U.S. embassy I think before he became the ruler.

I thought it was more like, "He's a scumbag but he's *our* scumbag", like other pro-U.S. dictators, autocrats, authoritarian regimes, etc. Holding back Soviet influence was obviously the goal, but I wonder what sort of consequences these kinds of actions/influencing have brought, in the long run. The pro-U.S. regime was very oppressive right? And I understood that that was one of the reasons why there was a revolution. So maybe the U.S./C.I.A. made mistakes in how they handled things.
