wireless transmitter problem

Curtis	wireless transmitter problem greetings, has anyone had the transmitter's red led light flash once and die when turned on? i changed the battery, measure battery current flow, and took a close look inside at the pcb but found nothing unordinary. the normal response is for the red led to continually light whenever the transmitter's battery switch is turned on. the model is st-2, samson, 177.6MHz, VHF FM dbx noise reduction. samson tech support does not recognize this particular model which is made in japan. has anyone attempted repairs at component level and if so, any advice on identifying the offending component(s)?
