They sound great but EF86s don't last long before going microphonic, especially in combos. I would try another EF86 and imagine that to be the most likely cause of your problem. fwiw, I've bought primo NOS tested EF86s and they all go squeely after a while (I'm talking Mullard, Telefunken, Siemens etc... here, so it's not so much the quality of the tube so much as the design IMO - that'll be why Vox ditched it in the AC30/4) ...
