"ss" seems like SolidState ( ICs and/or transistors ) . If there's no standby-switch and your amp starts working ( making sound ) right after switching on it's a transistor one .  
I've serviced a couple of Selmer tube-amps but I've never seen a solidstate one over here in the Netherlands , there's a 100 Watt one over here for servicing and/or rebuilding and ( no kidding ! ) right now I'm rebuilding a Selmer 100 Watt tube PA amp .  
The Selmer tube amps are pretty cool amps imho , cheaper then Marshalls and VOXes but pretty "cool" sounding .
