About the DiMarzio's and the EMG's
Well, I tried the Norton bridge and PAF Pro with my regular rig and I did like them better than I did at first. Especially the PAF Pro, the Gibson 496R was pure muffled mud compared to it. The Norton was actually a little too bright with not quite enough mids and output. The Gibson 500T was a little better (but quite different). Something right between the two would have been just right.

So I did an about-face and put an EMG 81 in the bridge and an EMG 60 in the neck. I smiled as soon as I hit the first chord. Then I hit the toggle switch and smiled again. Nice clarity without the harshness and decent bottom with no mud (the 81 is a little thin when clean but put some OD on it and ...WOW). The 81 reminds me of early VH, crunchy as hell and screams.

Disclaimer: This is NOT vintage PAF tone, just what my ears happen to like.
