When taking photos they often use a double exposure technique to make the tubes look brighter. They take a long exposure by just the light of the tubes, then set off flashguns to light the rest of the amp properly.

If you make the exposure really long the tubes will look like some kind of nuclear meltdown. For this 30 second exposure I didn't need any flash- the tubes themselves gave out enough light to show up the back of the amp.
