Also notice that if you leave out the pots and put a capacitor/bias resistor on each of the eight analog selected ports, you get the same left/right/random selection as a series switch.  
You could, for instance, use a buffer to drive eight separate pedals in parallel, and have the sequencer pick which one to dump into the amp or the rest of the effects chain. You could also buffer and feed eight *effects chains* and select which chain goes into the amp, either in sequence or randomly.  
I guess a manual incrementer would be useful here, too.
