Re: are a pot and a reostat the same???
A potentiometer and a rheostat are not the same thing.

A rheostat is a variable resistor, having only two terminals just like a fixed resistor.

A potentiometer is a fixed resistor with an extra terminal that can be moved to pick off varying resistance values with respect to the other two.

A potentiometer can be used as a rheostat, but a rheostat can't be used as a potentiometer.
