Can I use a 12AX7 in place of a 12AU7?

Tube Newbie	Can I use a 12AX7 in place of a 12AU7? Ok, I'm now in the process of re-tubing my CRATE VC6112. I called Crate and they said the Test Point for the Power tube bias should read between -50 and -45 volts, chassis referenced as the ground (I'm using EL34Rs). The 7025s are getting replaced with more 7025s, the GT-12AX7r is being replaced with an ECC83, BUT.... I Can't seem to find a suitable 12AU7 for the phase splitter and want to know what could substitute. Thank you in advance!!
