Some active filters use positive feedback. For example the Sallen-Key filters used in 99% of the speaker emulators. If you raise the open loop gain on such filters, the resonance peak gets narrower and higher, and then at some point it starts oscillating.
I think ZVex has a fuzz box with positive feedback - but it oscillates at certain settings
I have a schematic of a fuzz box that uses a discrete Schimitt trigger (that is it uses positive feedback to make a "comparator with hysteresis" - a ultra fuzz with built in noise gate).
