A 6AV6 is a 7 pin tube equivalent to half of a 12AX7  
(just ground the two extra diode plates). They're cheap,  
we only charge $2 for them.  
A 6AU6 might work wired as a high-mu triode (hook  
G1, G2 & G3 together), but I've never tried it.  
OTOH, 6AV6 I've seen used many times in lieu of 1/2 of a 12AX7.
