The 7199 is a small signal pentode and triode in the same envelope, it is very different from a 12AX7, which is two similar triodes in the same envelope. To use a 7199 in place of a 12AX7 you'd have to rewire the circuit. Unfortunately, there is no direct replacement for a 7199, althought there are several similar tubes with different pin outs, e.g. 6U8, 6BL8, 6GH8 among others. I got a replacement board for my Dyna ST-70 that uses 6GH8s as they are cheaper and readily available, unlike the 7199. Also, I've heard it said that the Sovtek 7199 isn't a real 7199, it is a rebased 6BL8. Hope this helps, Steve |
