Re: Calling Dave Schwab... 29K is stock + or - I never have rewound one as I never had a dead one in, I have only made a few replacements that drop in under the cover- you keep the old pickup in a bag to return it to stock later. I suspect you are looking at 44 gauge or higher, without having had a chance to rewind one I couldnt tell you for sure. |

| noobee | I failed to mention that the customer did complain about the mud so he let me wind it the way I wanted to meet his criteria. |

| Roscoe | Jasin?? Have you been spraying nitro this week? Sometimes I have trouble spelling after spraying but not My name. :-} |

| Greg Simon | I figured Jason spelled his name that way for a good reason, but one hasn't jumped out at me yet! I would think to reduce the mud on that sidewinder, the first thing you should do is not wind so much wire on it...but where to aim for, I have no idea. You may have to try several different winds and work with the customer to see what he likes. I'm sure he'll be patient if you communicate with him that the reason they are muddy is due to all the wire, and you're not sure where to start so you'll have to experiment with it. Greg |

Well, Greg, I is next to O on a qwerty keyboard and unless you've been using pseudonyms or had a computer crash, you'd never have to type it in again. I'd guess it's just a rushed piece of typing that's gone unnoticed by Mr Lillar. |

| Roscoe | This is a good reason to lean slightly to the right. Fixed. |

Hey, I'm not telling people what to like or not like... just what I like and don't like! And I change my mind al the time too. I actually still have an original Gibson Sidewinder. Those were designed by Bill Lawrence, and they wanted them to sound like a pipe organ... just fundamental. His later Strat sized "small humbuckers" are also sidewinders. I had two... one was in my '72 EB-2, and I picked up up a NOS back in the early 80's. I took the NOS pickup and unwound some wire, so it was about 12K. Then I added a couple of extra magnets. This opened up the sound a lot. I had it in the EB-2, until I sold it, then I put it in a Ric 4001. It still has a dark tone, but you can hear top and, and it doesn't have that distorted tone. It's like an extra mellow P-bass. Interestingly the EB-2 pickup seemed to have more wire on it than the NOS pickup. At the time I took a reading with an cheap analog meter, it read really high... I wrote down that it was 200k! But I might have read that wrong... seems way too high to me. The NOS was about 23 K, if I remember correctly. | |
