| Jabs | Effects of Subtle Coil Deformation I do not have the equipment to conduct this experiment, but perhaps it has been done, or can be done easily enough by others. All this talk of capacitance, scatter-winding, and resonant peak got me to thinking about the what is happening on the microscopic scale. If a coil of wire can be thought of as an infinite number of inductors, resisters and capacitors all interconnected, I wonder how the "values" of those figurative components change with subtle changes in coil/bobbin/magnet geometry. The experiment: wind a nominal coil on a flexible bobbin of some sort. Connect it to a spectrum analyzer and subject the coil to a field powered by a white (or pink) noise source. Observe the changes in spectrum as the coil is flexed in a variety of ways. Any thoughts from the engineering types? Jabs |
