I haven't heard their bucker pickups on a bass yet. I do like their hi-gains on bass and guitar, and their toasters and horseshoes too. The toaster is already pretty bright, so I don't know why you'd want to go less than the 7.4k they are supposed to have. (mine have about 6.1k)

Yeah the toasters are now wound to vintage specs. On my two '72 4001's, the toasters were about 8k. The funny thing is they called the bridge pickup on my basses hi-gains, but they weren't all that high gain! I think the bridge pickups were also about 8k. The new hi-gains are wound a lot hotter... 14K I think? Personally I think that's too much for a single coil that size. For a while they were winding the toasters a lot hotter too, then they went back to the lower output.

Ric is one of the few companies that use the same pickup on both bass and guitar. Even though the bass pickups have 4 poles, they more-or-less wind them the same. The toasters have always had six magnets, even on the bass.

Been out tonight with a mate to see the John Whitehill band. Only one thing could come of this -
His pickups make for a very small percentage of the magic, the most comes out of those fingers of his.

Bloke's a genius!

If you haven't got Guitar Slinger by Johnny Whitehill and blues is your thing, hell; buy it.

Good point , but without the pickups , he wouldn't have any sound at all... , seriously though , you're right , great players can make anything sound good , for the rest of us though good gear , and that includes pickups helps ,
