| Phil m. | Armored polythermalize wire? Hi, I found a spool of 42 awg armored polythermalize wire. It's rated 200 degrees and not specially classified "solderable" (not specified anything) Could I use this for pickups? My worry is that I couldn't solder the end wires. Would it only be that I have to scrape of more of the finish to solder it or not? Does anyone have experience with that wire? |

| RS | I saw it on Star trek a few weeks ago. Apparently if you piss on the dilithium crystal you can do just about anything you want. Sorry, it's late, R. |

| Dave Stephens | Yeah but they don't make dilithium crystals in this country anymore, you can only get them from China now and they are poorly made, alot of starships these days blow up from stress fractures in the crystals. Seriously yeah you should be able to use it, just scrape off the insulation, how thick the insulation is will cause tone changes, is it single build, double build? |

I wonder... would pissing on the dilithium crystals have the same effect as pissing on the electric fence... only more so? I couldn't resist - Ken |

Yo. A search on poly-thermaleze gets this: It's a Phelps-Dodge trademark that means a heavy or double build using poly-imide resin over a polyester bottom coat. It is very tough, immune to most solvents, and good to 200C. The NEMA classification for it is MW35-Heavy. It might be a fair substitute for formvar-insulated wire. Feel like experimenting? -drh -- |
