Good source for (ceramic) magnets?
OK, I know most of you crazy* winders use alnico mags (and for good reason), but I'm trying to find some ceramic mags wide enough for a 5 string bass. Of all the places I check so far, none of them stock ceramic mags in the sizes I'm looking for. One place got back to me saying most of the pickup winders use such and such, but even those sizes didn't exist before the pickup makers asked for them! I haven't heard back from them since...

What do you guys do when you need odd size magnets? I'd even go with alnico bars, if I could get them 3.2" wide! :-\ I'm trying to not use alnico rods, and stick with a bar mag/blade setup, although I will probably try something with alnico rods in the future.. I may have to use a steel bar and smaller mags...

Reminds me of the saying "I could rule the world, if I could only find the parts..."

*Oh and I meant crazy in the best possible way! :)

Hi David,

I don't know if this will be of any use to you - most of the site is in Finnish but they do have what you want. This is one page of their catalogue, wish they were down the road from me:

Wow! Cool stuff here! Bobbins and magnets galore. Thanks. :)

Have you bought anything from them?

"Have you bought anything from them?"

I haven't no. Part laziness and part Finnish-is-daunting.

I will though...

if they have two language catalog (one of them is english), they probably will communicate in english, I will try them, they have something what the other don't (not only pickup parts) and the shipping will be probably much lower than intercontinental shipping from US, without custom taxes...
great, thanks

Oh.. I was hoping you spoke Finnish!

Maybe I'll email them and see if they speak English... I think I found an email link...

I can't seem to get the gp17.pdf page to display anything but the rest of the site looks very promising.....
