WHat winder motor? Just curious as to what winder motor and speed controller you guys are using on your winders? I have been using an old Baldor fan motor, and have used a sewing machine motor but I am looking for somthing a bit better for my new machine. Thinking of the Dayton 2m033 but it's 5k rpm and the Dayton speed control does not start at zero or so it says and I don't need the speed. Any ideas for a small motor around 1750 rpm and a good rheostat that will have a good smooth start? |

| RS | You might consider using a small variac as your speed control, this will go down to zero r.p.m. and I think you could use the Dayton motor. I don't *think* the motor torque at low voltage would be an issue for a pickup winder but would welcome other opinions. Rob. |

| Roscoe | I use a sewing machine motor with a variac, works great. |

how would one go about getting a "variac"? Thanks! |

What about using a stepper motor that you could control the torque on precisely. You could even vary the speed within a single revolution to slow down around the ends of a long coil. The inertial moment of some of these motors is very small so chances of breaking a wire could be minimized further. |

| Mystic | I'm using a Grizzly wood lathe with the bed cut down to about eight inches. It comes with a speed controller. All I added was a reverse switch and a counter (red lion + prox switch) |
