| Wolfe Macleod | Bevelling magnets 101 Chuck a magnet into your drill press. Using a dremel tool,m preferably with a flexible shaft, and a small dionond cutting disk... Turn the drill press on. Turn the dremel on. Touch the diamond disk to the magnet lightly. If you so desire, you can then run a fine nail buffer across the bevelled end of the magnet to remove any burrs. If you further desire, you can sit on the magnet with the polishing section of the nail buffer in order to POLISH the bevel. You are finished. |

I've always wondered -- why bevel a magnet? What are the advantages? |
|---|---|
| Mickey Boy | for me , its easier to get the top bobbin on , haven't noticed much of a difference in tone/sound etc how would you test it anyway , different pickups will sound different anyway Mick |

"for me , its easier to get the top bobbin on" Good point. Hadn't thought of that. Anything else, Wolfe or anyone on the advantages of beveling? |
|---|---|
| Mickey Boy | There is/was talk about it giving a more focused tone or something because it is a narrower area , ? Don't know about that one? it does look good though Mick |

| Wolfe Macleod | Two reasons to bevel For me, it's mostly for ease of skeleton assembly. But, for the players, it means NO CUTS ON THE FINGERS. Un-bevelled magnets can cut rather badly when caught just right with a fingertip. |
