Re: Why no headphone for Tube Amps Steve: Not speaking from personal experience, it does seem like Mesa Engineering has been a pioneer in this particular area (compensated line out and headphone outputs for tube amps). One trick that they do is tap the signal before the PI and will ground out the PI input to mute the power amp (no need for huge dummy loads, etc.) And their circuits are pretty fancy, although I haven't tried the headphone output. While a new F-30 or F-50 amp is selling for $1000, one might find the older Subway Blues and Subway Rocket amps for sale on ebay, etc. Mesa Boogie's reputation around here isn't exactly sparkling, but if you avoid the various Rectos and Mark IV's you can get some decent tones from their amps.
