WHAT'S UP WITH YAHOO?
I'm goin' nuts! For the last week, Yahoo has been really slow. For the last two days, I can't get it to open to view my e-mail.

Does anyone know what's with Yahoo?

Thanks,
Steve Dallman

Could be them, could be your local interface, and could be your computer.

Have you scanned your unit for virus and spyware lately? Spyware can really slow you down.

couple ideas:
1 - if you're using IE, don't. There is a way cool zero day exploit that will let some jerkoff take over your PC. You have to disable javascript completely. there is no patch. (thx once again to msft) try using another browser. Any other browser. Please. ;)

2 - try clearing out your cache and temp files. It's possible you have a munged version of those pages and they just won't load (or even throw an error). Also depending on the settings for your cache, you can get a *lot* of files in that directory which destroys performance. Lots of small files are bad for disk performance anyhow, but to make it worse as that number gets into the thousands windows starts to choke. By the time you hit around 16,000 (16,535 being a magic number) you can hang explorer (your desktop).

I know it doesn't help you, but here in Firefox land, I can open yahoo mail in about a second.
If Yahoo had a week of system issues, it would be covered by every news outlet in town. I would check your PC first.

Thanks, The problem is with something in our computer. We are looking but can't find the problem. It started a few days ago. Opening mail accounts got slower and slower and now we can't get Yahoo mail to open.

We've cleared cache and temp files but it's no help. My girlfriend is a lot more computer saavy than I am, but she hasn't been able to find the problem yet.

- have you tried a different browser?
- check the host file (winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

many times spyware will put DNS entries in there which can mess with legit sites.

if you have entries, run some anti-spyware utils and see if you can clean up the box..

- see if you can ping yahoo mail (mail.yahoo.com)
- see if you can tracert to yahoo mail ("")

do you have a firewall on the pc?

I noticed slow response in my yahoo mail also couple days ago. I checked my PC (virus, spyware), seemed to be clean except for a realplayer cookie (showed up as spyware).

After a few frustrating days, we de-fragged our drives and when done, Yahoo e-mail opened up.

We tried several things with our anti-spyware, anti-virus and firewall software and found nothing. I don't know why it quit, or why defragging everything worked, but it's all working and I'm a happy boy.
