Organizing CD collection w/ bar code scanner? I've got "too many cds" to match my "too many guitars", and I end up buying 2 or 3 copies of the same cd because I forgot that I had already bought it. I was wondering if there is a bar code reader that would plug into the USB port of my notebook computer, along with software to download the album information from the internet and organize it in a database. | jaysg | My son-in-law has something like that for his MAC. He said it cost $40 and that there's a PC version that's more expensive. Unfortunately, I can't remember what it's called. He's using it for DVD's first. |

I forget the details but wasn't there some free service inside a CD/WAV to other file converter where you could get this info automatically (on-line connection to a database), but you had to sign-up for it? A lot of CDs would definitely be a big PITB. |

Dai: You bring up a good point: once a cd is inserted into an optical drive on your computer there are several music services which will id the album and allow you to download the names and artwork. Usually one of the services is included free with your cd burning software. The bar code reader would be much faster- maybe 15 seconds to scan and ID an album? It takes about a minute for my computer to recognize an inserted CD and download the info. Steve Ahola |
