Ray Charles box set (great Christmas present!)
I couldn't pass this up at Costco the other night- the complete Atlantic recordings of Ray Charles packaged in a box made to look like a cheap record player from the 50's...

For more information on the recordings, look at this link:

Although it retails for $150 Costco was selling it for $100. (Now I just need to get a complete collection of his recordings with ABC Paramount- or maybe just all of those recordings through maybe 1965... IMO he reached his peak when he recorded "Let's Go Get Stoned".) Maybe this one:

Holy Toledo, that's a lotta good music! One of my favorite Ray Charles tracks is the duet he did with Aretha Franklin on "Spirit in the Dark" in the Live at the Fillmore West album. More soul than they got in heaven, baby.

That was King Curtis' band backing her up on the Live at the Fillmore album, and he released his own live album from the same night(s?) for one of the strongest one-two punches ever. I've heard that they just issued an expanded edition of her album, with ALL of the recording she had made at the Fillmore...

Oops! It was a limited edition run of 5000 copies and is NLA... :(
