The new Gretsch Amps- by Victoria!!
Hey Gents-

I was looking at some of the new Gretsch models and I saw this section for their new amps...

At least they're not cheap Korean pcb jobbies like the new Epiphone amps! These things ain't cheap either, download their price brochure if you want a grin! Suddenly the amp-building biz/hobby seems cheap in comparison :-)

Cool Idea .... Post the schematic online for all to see.

Les is a pretty clever designer. I am surprised that they posted the schemtics, but at the same time it lets you see that they are not clone amps. look at the 18wer - there is a filter/conjugate load on the OT primary, an interesting trem circuit, etc. The etched chrome knobs are kinda cool too. I hope they do well.

Actually, one of the things about amps is that they are money and labour-intensive enough that you CAN post the schems. If someone wants to shell out money for the transformers, and fabricating a chassis, etc, etc, more power to them, but obviously it isn't going to happen very often. As far as servicing goes, all the parts HAVE to be visible and replaceable, with as little in the way of proprietary parts (with the exception of trannies) as possible.

As a primarily pedal guy, I'm envious. In the pedal world, people take a known circuit, change a few things, and then either cover it with epoxy to prevent copying (or discovery of how simple the circuit really is), or make it SMT to prevent easy fabrication. Of course, when any doofus can take the money they were gonna spend on a carton of smokes and buy the same Hammond chassis and 3PDT switch and jacks, the threat of legions of copiers is that much more real. Amp manufacturers have the comfort of knowing not all that many people can or will copy their amps and cost them a sale.

Lucky bastards.
