giustd comcast guitar videos on demand
comcast digital cable has all kinds of on demand free stuff including guitar lessons. what you'd expect, some guy takes you through the changes slowly. ok, that got boring so I rooted aorund and found 'celebrity lessons', vai, dave mustaine from megadeth, zakk wylde, and micheal angelo. apparently the kids wanna see metal mayhem.
vai's is the longest (hmmm...), he's sitting in a studio and goes thru a bunch of licks on one of his tunes. kinda dull, impressive playing but not all that entertaining.
zakk's is the shortest and funniest, he appears to be drunk, he mumbles something about playing a bunch of crap, then launches into incoherent shredding on a pointy guitar with a really shitty distro box thru marshall tone. points for being half in the bag and not taking it too seriously.
mustaine's thing was showing palm muting and chugga riffs, that got dull after about 2 minutes partly because he looks like he's just not that excited about any of it.
the most entertaining by far was micheal angelo. first off, is he wearing a nigel tufnel wig? cuz it sure looks like it. second, he says " i take my music VERY seriously" (emphasis his). I wonder who else does? he shows a couple speed building tips but the majority of the video is an obviously choreographed performance on his twin neck guitar, not yer daddy's jim page doubleneck sg but a two necks going in opposite directions thing that looks like a jet. he plays lead on both at the same time (with gobs of processed distortion of course). at one point he plays trills on both necks and raises the guitar up, look, it's flying!!! the finale is a fireworks display of all the tapping, hammering and over the neck tricks culinating in a power chord and then he flexes his bicep muscle (I'm not joking) . he works out too!!! Now that was enteratining, kinda like the guitar equivalent of those stunt motocross guys who do back flips and throw themselves over the handlebars while they're in mid air. he shoulda wore a crash helmet for effect, or maybe there was enough hairspray in the wig to protect his noggin.
