peavey xr600f trouble
I have a Peavey XR600F that I acquired from a friend of mine. He used it for his Karaoke business and the only thing that is not working are the amps. I basically have to run it through another source, I am currently using my home stereo. All other controls work fine, but if I connect the speakers directly to the outputs in back, I get no sound. The person I got the unit from was told it may have some sort of overload circuit that needs to be replaced or reset. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

John, it could be something simple like a blown fuse inside, but it may also need real service. If you are technically inclined, get out the voltmeter and we can help. If you are not a guy who likes to solder on circuit boards, then it need to go to a shop.

Enzo, thanks for the quick reply. I am a little bit technically inclined, but don't know anything about amps. I would love to try to fix this on my own, but have no idea where to start. If you have the willingness and patience to work with me, I would be happy to give it a try. This is not a rush issue by any means...I'm only using it at home to practice my karaoke "skills". Thanks again for your help.

Well, John, we don't want you dead, so be very careful when working inside.

Start by removing the rear panel and looking for blown fuses. Always always use the proper fuse to replace blown ones. Remove the fuses from their clips to measure them with a meter to be sure.

Well, upon removal of the rear panel and possible getting "contact cancer" from the years of this amp being in a bar, I found 3 burned resistors. Can the resistors being burnt damage the circuit board? It looks as if one may have melted the board a little. Didn't burn through, just melted a little. I have to complete the disassembly after work to see the real damage. Thanks again for your help!

I've got it all disassembled. There are quite a few burnt resistors, all in the same general area. Is there anyone who has a schematic, or list of the resistors, so I can install the correct ones. Some are burnt so that I cannot decipher them. I looked online for schematics or circuit board diagrams with no luck. Thanks for any help.

Peavey will supply the drawings. Call 601-483-5365 and ask for parts or email parts@peavey.com

They will email for free or charge $2.50 for paper copies.

The resistors will have to be replaced, and you can clean up the board around them, but resistors are not the problem, they are the symptom. You no doubt have some shorted transistors in there. Check all the power transistors in there for shorts.

And get that schematic.
