quality dual ganged guitar pots?
Hi all

I'm working on a new guitar-circuit and I need to use 500k, lin and log, dual ganged pots.
Anyone know(s?) where to find good quality ones with smooth travel, also wanna use "regular/common" knobs?

Many tia!!!

Solid shaft or knurled? You might try swapping out one of the resistive paths on a dual-ganged 500k linear or log taper pot. That does seem to work better on the cheaper pots (like Alpha instead of A-B :( ).

So are you going to tell us why you need a 500k lin and log pot? Inquiring minds want to know!

Hi Steve!

Both sides need to be the same (A or B).
My love for music and soldering did start after checking out the electronics inside my 1st electric guitar and the last years I did design some special guitar-switching-circuits for customers and some guitarbuilding friends.
For the inquiring mind:
Most guys do like lin as volume-control and log as tone-control.

Have a good time Steve, hope everything's allright with you!

With a linear pot as you turn the pot up from 0 you get very loud very quick. The only advantage I see with a linear pot is the extra precision you get as you turn down from 10 (you lose volume quickly with a log pot).

Guitarists who use the volume control as a volume pedal for swells, etc., would throw all of our statistics out the window. :(

FWIW I've always used log pots (AKA audio taper pots) in my guitars...

P.S. I misread your post and thought that you were looking for a dual-ganged pot with one linear gang and one audio gang... definitely a custom item! You can buy linear or audio dual-ganged pots from Mouser but I believe that they come with solid 1/4" shafts. :(

Hi Steve

I was also thinking that about the lin or B volume pot but it just does work very well. The last time I did use log/A as volume pot that control did start "doing something" above 3.

I think I just use some Alpha "amp-pots" I do have in stock altough the adjustment is a little harder to do with your pinky :)

Chris, what you're asking for is available in the US from all the usual suspects. Can't say for the EU. The '62 Jazz Bass uses two of them with any color you want for knob sets - chrome, gold, black, mix and match. I think Warmoth has a good view of all the parts. They're overpriced everywhere I've seen, but no problem to find.
