'90's Stratocaster with painted headstock Does anyone know what model it is that had a headstock which is painted at the factory to match the body color, in this case *surf green*? Supposedly from 1995, there is also a center-detent control instead of a regular pot for the third control knob. Rosewood fretboard on this one too, regular trem. Thanks, Mike |

| Dwight Listmayer | Check out Fender's website, try to match the serial number in the identification section. It sounds Japanese (MIJ) but you didn't say so. Only you know where it's made, 'cuz it is printed on it, right? And serial #'s vary, with country of origin. But uno, the painted headstock WAS on a lot of MIJ Strats and I'd bet that the centre-detent tone control is one like I have on a stock MIJ, instead of the usual American TBX, unless it was installed separately afterward. If you have a USA model, and the serial # begins with N5 for 1995 or N6 for 1996, they can be a 50th anniversary production run, not widely publicized, and not called an Anniversary model, but they were made nevertheless as part of the year that the company had it's 50th Anniversary overall 1946 - 1996. Check out this link. I seem to remember there were a lot of guitars from the eighties to the mid nineties that had matching headstocks.... http://www.tommysguitars.com/images/159.jpg I didn't like them myself, but I have come round to liking them now that I don't see them anymore. Wierd! BTW, Tommy's Guitars also list a rare Strat with painted headstock from the mid nineties I think. Trouble is there are no photos. I'm not sure about the centre detent thing... that could be right or after-market. |
