| John | Gibson Les Paul custom from 1982 Hi I have a Gibson Les Paul custom from 1982. On the body under neck pickup stands W-RED and W-H-W and under bridge hand written MS. If someone knows the mining of that please let me know. |

| Joey | It means that it was to be sprayed wine red. Not sure about the rest but sometimes the people involved in the making of the instrument would put their initials there. |

| Marco | Yes W-Red means wine red. W-H-W means white knobs and pickup frame. Not sure about MS. |
|---|---|
| JJ | Hi I think that’s SM not MS. SM stands for chrome hardware. |

| Dwight Listmayer | So that would be "Silver Metal" then? WOW, you guys are good, but it wasn't my question it the first place. Interesting to see that replies are 100% correct throughout, since it would be an unusual, but valid Custom with the chrome hardware, instead of more common Gold. Strat man Dwight |

| John | Hello Thank you all. I did some research on my guitar and: Les Paul custom with silver metal hard ware and white plastic parts was made in 1982. They made very small numbers of that model. It has Crank-style tuners by Gibson. Check the picture http://photos1.blogger.com/img/264/1593/1024/PICT00171.jpg |

Gotta love those Norlin improvements! Maple necks on Les Pauls, diamond volute (rare)... |
