nabisko need wiring diagram, 2 single coils.
i just bought a daimaru guitar on ebay-

the pickups appear to be single coil, one heavy green lead and two really thin black and red leads. the black and red are super thin, thinner than telephone wiring. i'm just going to assume the green is a ground.

the pots are volume/volume/tone. i want to wire it volume/tone/tone (i think, please correct me if this is a bad idea)

i remember seeing a diagram for doing this, but now i can't find it.

if you look at the listing, you'll notice two switches. they're spdt, i'm going to wire one of them for switching between two different values of tone cap and i want to replace the other with a sp3t to switch pickups.

a few years ago, i could have figured out a wiring scheme in my head, but it's been a while since i've had to do this.

all i need is a link to a diagram to wire for volume/tone/tone for two single coils. i'll figure the switching out.

also, has anyone ever seen fretwire that was flat on top? i don't mean rounded wire with a flat top, i mean this stuff is square. it's like someone installed huge jumbo frets and filed them down almost level with the fretboard... she plays good, though.

My personal feeling (and experience) is that you'll get more tone possibilities out of it the way it is. I would definitely experiment with it a while before ditching the original scheme...

thanks for the input.

i'm starting to have a feeling like someone's already modified some wiring inside this one.

i bought this to experiment with, but it needs rewired anyway. (i don't even know what the switches are supposed to do, but there are four possible settings, two of which make the whole thing go dead.)

i need to replace the pots- they don't do much, and the jack- it doesn't make a good connection, i also need to shield the whole thing.

i'm still trying to locate schematics, even looking at bass schematics. i have lots of time to sit around at home working on it, what with not being able to afford the gas to go anywhere at all...

i'm already pretty much against the current v/v/t setup. i think i'm going to change the jack and pots and shield it first, then go over the solder connections to make sure there aren't any shorts or open spots to explain the dead settings.

if that doesn't work wonders, i'll try rewiring the controls for v/t/t.

If you want to scrap one of the volume controls I'd recommend adding a rotary switch to connect the two pickups in parallel or in series. With both pickups on does that increase or decrease the hum? If the latter then your guitar would be a good candidate for serial linkage... it would thicken the sound like a humbucker.

I don't see much advantage with two tone controls since I usually leave mine set to 10. But then again if one of the tone controls was a mid cut/boost control it could be really slick:

i havn't checked to see if they're rw/rp yet. i don't know how to switch both pickups on at the same time, but there is one setting where it seems to have a little more output than the other setting.

these pickups seem to be pretty weak, but i think they'll do better with higher quality pots.

i don't entirely understand the dual mid schematic, but i think i get the basics. do you have a full circuit schematic with it for a strat or tele? i think i might get a better grip on it that way.

do you have a sound sample anywhere i could check out?

here i was all last night at work thinking about putting in an extra pot so each pickup could have it's own volume and tone controls- and now i have another option to weigh.

oh, well, i guess if it was easy it wouldn't be fun...

As for the switches there might be a dead spot in them, or one of the pickups might be bad. Two options there: each switch turns on one of the pickups in which case 1 of 4 positions would be dead. The other option would be the switches would effect the tone or linkage in which case none of the positions should be dead.

would i need to adjust any values using only single coils?

i assume i'll need to use a 250k pot, but what about the resistors and caps?
