I think I agree with you.  
I just didn't need another guitar, only a new sound.  
Since I posted my question, I spent more time with my Starfire, and I felt in love with it again. I remember now why I bought it in the first place.  
But I still want the Les Paul sound. So I will first experiment with a preamp circuit to add to the Starfire so I can give it a sound closer to a LP when I want. I checked a few multi-effects that have a "single-coil->humbucker" option and it seems to be only an EQ thing.  
That's until I can buy a LP clone if I still feel the need later.  
Btw, another reason I wanted to mod my Dearmond is that a guy who is playing at the same Blues Jams than me bought one 6 months ago.... I don't like having exacly the same guitar than someone else.  
So I guest I will change the knobs for some chromed ones, and put a different pickguard. That would be a start...
