Replacment Ampeg tube sockets? I know I can't be the only one who has needed to re-socket a 60s/70s Ampeg. In particular, I'd like to know if there are accurate replacements for Fliptop and V-Series amps. These sockets (octal/power tube) are made from black phenolic/plastic typem material and mount from below, flush with the chassis. The mounting hole is 1" in diameter and the mounting tabs are (I think) on a 1 3/8" center. I've checked the major amp parts suppliers online to no avail (AES, Fliptops, Ampwares, Angela, etc.). The closest thing I could find were the ceramic Fender drop-ins, but the mounting bracket is such that I don't think I could get a reliable flush-mounting. The problem stems from a mid 70s V-4B with an intermittent crackling/crashing sound that seems linked to microphonic sockets (of course, I could be wrong on this as well). I appreciate any help you guys have to offer. Thanks! Paul |

It might be worth trying on those ceramic sockets to see it that does fix your issue. That would at least give you a playable amp while you hunt down the real deal. Have you looked at eBay? HTH! |

Thanks Don, I have been checking eBay, though the seller does not always give the dimensions for the socket. Perhaps I'll come across an Ampeg-specific auction. I just figured someone else had to have replaced these things before. Paul |

There's this thread: http://www.firebottle.com/fireforum/fireBB.cgi?cfg=misc&forum=misc&enter=go that links to lists of a bunch of surplus and swap-meet sources that might be useful. HTH! |
