Music Man Amps...help Does anyone here know how to date the old 70's made Music Man amps be serial number? Or does anyone know anyway of getting an estimate at when one of these was made? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. |

I usually just look at the date codes on the parts when I wonder how old an amp is. The pots usually have accessible codes. And many other parts like transformers and caps have codes. |

| anonymous | OK. Like 'shave and a haircut'....can't stand it. Guess your not interested in dating a 50's Music Man like me? Sorry!!!! |

| Le Basseur | Hey Luke/anonymous, No need to foam up because you got an answer different than you expected! Enzo's approach is the most simple and effective one...what's that you don't understand when someone talks about parts' numbers? If you want an extensive answer to your questions, you might try at: http://www.pacair.com/cgi-bin/discus/discus.cgi?pg=topics HTH! Regards, Le Basseur P.S.It might be a typo...but AFAIK there's no such thing as a "50's MusicMan"...their production began in the early '70s! |

I think "Annon" was making a little joke there, the " '50's Music Man" was referring to himself, not an amplifier - and the date?, I think he was interested in dinner and a movie, perhaps a nice walk and some cuddling afterwards. RE | |

Well, now I am not sure who is joking about what. But I was dead serious about date codes on the pots. A number on a pot like 1377842 is read thus: 137 means CTS made the part 7842 means the part was made in the 42nd week of 1978. Likewise 7842 on a filter cap or transformer will again mean 1978, 42nd week. |
