| Jason | 1966 BFSR Blowing Fuses I am not sure what is causing it ... you can look at pictures on my website ... www.angelfire.com/blues2/1966SuperReverb I mean i tried my amp througha 4 ohm bottom on about volume 4 for about 10-15 seconds and turned it off...didn't seem to have any negative effects...then i tried a faded GE preamp tube and about 5 minutes later a fuse blew ... then another after that ... Also the fuse blew a week before when I put in a different rectifier tube that was probably bad...all i did was change the fuse and it was fine... finally...I took my amp out to take pictures for the aformentioned website and the washer that holds the handle in fell into the amp ... I have a picture if you want me to email it ... but i took that out and put it back into place and replaced the amp ... any Ideas??? |

When an amp blows a fuse, it is because the circuit is drawing too much current. Usually the top three culprits are: 1) power tubes, 2) rectifier circuit or tube, 3) filter supply circuit. Occasionally something amiss in the phase inverter or bias circuit will affect one of the above three areas in such a way to cause a fuse to blow. It is not usual for a bad preamp tube to cause a fuse to blow, but never say never with tube amps. Of course, dropping various metal objects into live amps may reak havoc, depending on the arbitrary and random connections these metal bits make in their travels. It sounds to me like you could use the services of a good amp tech. Bob M. |

| R.G. | At the top of the "reading list" section of this page when you enter it, there's an entry for "The Tube Amp Debugging Page" at GEO. There is a whole section in there on how to find what's blowing fuses. |
