speaker choice Im trying to figure out which speaker is right for me. I just picked up a 1961 Brownface fender vibrolux That I want to put a new speaker in(the oxford has long since been replaced by some no-name P.A. type 12inch speaker that doesnt sound very nice) Ive tried a couple of speakers in it and they didn't work out . 1st I tried a Jensen P12R - it sounded like garbage (ive tried that speaker in numerous amps with the same result) Really boxy and thin and low output... so I definately don't want anything similar to that. 2nd I tried a Weber Blue Dog, that's much closer to the sound I want, except not quite right for this amp. With the blue dog I have to back off the treble and turn up the bass. Thanks for any help! |

Have you tried a P12N, original or weber clone? How about a Tone Tubby? While on the subject, What do people like in place of the stock oxford in a deluxe reverb? Mark. |

| SpeedRacer | my favorite hands down is a gold label jensen from a BF Twin rvb in a DR. That's what I've used for the past 10 years or so. They can take the heat, and have that unbeatable fender clean 'jangle' thing going on. You don't know you're missing it on the other speakers until you go back and then you have an "ah ha!" moment.. at least I did. - the Celestions mentioned can do a very nice job (and get you closer to 'marshall' territory if you plug in a HB guitar and crank it up) Not sure if I'm brave enough to try a bulldog in a DR.. I fear for the one in my 5E3, and a DR puts out a lot more power. They're just too expensive to blow. - a kendrick blackframe (old style) is a great all around speaker and super efficient with amazing bass. An original P12N would be hard to beat if the budget would bear it. |

Hi Nathan Don't know how they'll match to a br.f. Fender but I've experienced great results with Celestion H30s in bf and sf Fenders. Warm highs and tight bass. Hope this helps! Chris |

A celstion h30 sounds cool, how efficient is this speaker? One of my favorite things about the blue dog is the volume it puts out without running the amp too hard. |

hi Nathan 100dB/1W/1m, same as a Celestion Vintage30 or Celestion AlnicoBlue. Chris |

My experience with the "new" Jensen speakers is that the current C-12Q is a much better sounding speaker than the P-12R. There's a reconer in Seattle who can make the new Jensen's sound like they should, or at least much better than they do from the factory - it requires a complete recone of the speaker though. I've had very good results with the newer C-12N in Fender Pro Reverb & C-12K speakers in Fender Twin Reverb amps. ymmv RE | |
