Re: Evans amp help! Another strange quirk with this thing is that it is actually louder with the effects loop engaged. Just going into the input without the effects loop hooked up drops the volume further. Wierd stuff PMS |

With the FX loop engaged and a simple patch cord from SEND to RETURN, huh? That's often a sign that the bypass switch in one of the jacks is malfunctioning - dirty, weak spring, broken contact. Are there level controls for the loop? Does there seem to be an op-amp specifically for driving (or recovering) the FX loop?

"With the FX loop engaged and a simple patch cord from SEND to RETURN, huh?" Yessiree, exactly that. That's what's got me thinking it may not be in the PSU, that wouldn't behave like that would it? "That's often a sign that the bypass switch in one of the jacks is malfunctioning" One of the input jacks or one of the loop jacks? "Are there level controls for the loop?" Nosiree "Does there seem to be an op-amp specifically for driving (or recovering) the FX loop?" I really don't know, but i'll certainly check! There are a few op-amps, a couple on the board coming from the FETs....but i'm not sure about the main board with the loop circuit. I will definitely check though! Don, I really appreciate the help with this thing! I'm used to old Fenders and Marshalls, never worked with one of these lil monsters before so i'm pretty lost. I will check all of the above though and thanks again! PMS |
"That's often a sign that the bypass switch in one of the jacks is malfunctioning" One of the input jacks or one of the loop jacks?
I meant the loop jacks, but it sure wouldn't hurt to have a look at the input jacks. While you're looking, make sure the jacks are either nice and snug to the chassis or have ground wires (preferably twisted) with the signal wires.
"Are there level controls for the loop?" Nosiree
Good - that's several fewer components to worry about.
That's what I try to do here - contribute because it's a good way to learn and stretch. I'm using general debugging experience here because I have no exposure to these Evans products. Good luck!
