| Carl Gigun | Re: Help! Marshall 4203 blowing fuses, not PT This amp appears to work like that RG, the bias supply is cap coupled off the FWB and the standby switch is before the bridge. I've been talking to John offline and now that he's up and running I think he should probably try to reduce the turn on stress the power transformer is seeing by moving the standby switch to the other side of the bridge. Does anybody see a problem with that move? A fuse to protect that winding would be a good idea too IMO. It's still unclear what killed his old transformer. When did it die John? -Carl |

Carl, The amp died at a gig a year ago this past new year's eve. (Thank god I had a spare.) As I remember, It seems the amp was working, but then started not putting out the right output volume wise, then all of a sudden I could smell something really hot, I looked over to see smoke rolling out the back, and then the fuse blew. I played hundreds of gigs with the amp, and I know the tubes had not been changed in quite a few years. The 12ax7 was old, and used to begin with, and the power tubes were also old, and I don't think they were matched. Hope this helps. Thanks. John |
