Replaceing Tube Sockets in Ampeg Jet
Hello,

I am in the process of replacing the 2 power tube sockets in my 66 Ampeg Jet. I bought the standard tube sockets before I even took the old ones out for measurement and it looks like the standard 1 1/6" size is too big for my ampeg. I think I need a 1" hole. So, the question is do I just order the smaller sockets, or should I try to make the hole bigger? I would imagine it will be easier to just buy the smaller sockets, but if you have any thoughts, let me know.

Thanks,
Chris

Right after I hit submit, I realized that I spelled "replacing" wrong. I guess that is why they have the "preview reply" button.

I'd buy the smaller sockets Chris.
Not much cost.
A lot less work.
And no hacking on the chassis.

Good luck,
Tom

That is what I was thinking. Sure seems easier that way.

i think you will find the new sockets need to be modified to work. most new sockets are 1 1/2" across the screw holes and most old ampegs (i think)
are 1 5/16".
