Chuck, regular chokes have very little inductance change vs. current. There's some, but it's very minor compared to a swinging choke. Swinging chokes are SUPPOSED to vary over a wide range!

You pay for it with a regular choke, though. They are MUCH bigger, heavier and more expensive than a swinging choke! Swinging chokes are a great cheap solution as long as you understand about "keep alive" current! (Gee I love that term! So descriptive! I owe the good Doctor yet another beer!)

Thinking about the higher cost, that's probably the reason that no one offers swinging chokes anymore. Or am I being too cynical?

Chuck	Thanks Bill. If you look at my earlier post you'll see a very extreme example of the concept I was working with. I wish I could remember where I read it so I could check the facts better. Chuck
